Sheffield Wednesday ‘have made attempts’ to register player before Rotherham

Sheffield Wednesday have tried to register Marvin Johnson ahead of today’s game against Rotherham United. The Championship outfit face the Millers on home soil desperately seeking a first victory of the campaign.
Johnson wasn’t included in the 25-man squad by Xisco Munoz. As a result, he’s not featured in the league this season but new boss Danny Rohl has been taking a look at him

The 32-year-old was instrumental as Wednesday won promotion to the Championship last season. He registered an impressive 14 assists as the Owls won the play-offs to win climb a division

Darren Moore was a big fan of Johnson. He called Johnson ‘excellent’ when he was in charge at Hillsborough and he made over 50 appearances in all competitions last season.

The Star have now confirmed that Wednesday have stepped up their efforts to include Johnson in the squad this week. However, it’s not been confirmed either way and fans will have to wait and see when the teams get announced today.

Johnson can provide cover on the left-hand side of the pitch. He has operated as a left-back, a left-sided wing-back and as a left-winger, with versatility the order of the day with Johnson.

Rohl right to register Johnson

This is a very positive step made by the new manager. Johnson has the experience that perhaps Wednesday have been lacking this season and he could make a difference.

Johnson signed for Wednesday from Middlesbrough in 2021. He’s made 95 appearances for the club and he would provide the team with a natural left-footed option.

Too many players have featured out of position on the left so far this season. Rohl wouldn’t have that conundrum if Johnson had been registered and it’s no surprise to see this step now taken by the manager.
