FINAL SAY
VfL Wolfsburg arrested their poor run of results with a 1-0 victory at SV Darmstadt 98 on Saturday. The Wolves had lost back-to-back league games and collected only four points from eight matches prior to their Matchday 15 triumph, which was earned thanks to Lovro Majer’s second-half strike (63’) after Maxence Lacroix had been given his marching orders in the first half (27’).
A RARE AWAY WIN
The 1-0 victory ended a run of six successive away defeats in the league for VfL. Their only other away win during the first half of the campaign was a 2-1 success at 1. FC Köln at the end of August.
MATCH-WINNER AND MAN OF THE MATCH
Majer registered more attempts than any other Wolves player in Darmstadt, scored the only goal of the game and covered more ground (12.4 km) than any other player on the pitch. The Croatian, who has scored two and set up a further three goals this season, was voted man of the match by VfL supporters with 50 per cent of the poll, placing him ahead of Jonas Wind (28 per cent) and goalkeeper Koen Casteels (22 per cent).
CASTEELS JOINS 100 CLUB
VfL keeper Casteels delivered a solid display against the Lilies to earn his 100th Bundesliga victory on his 270th top-flight appearance. Congratulations, Koen!
AMOAKO MAKES DEBUT
VfL’s U19 defensive midfielder Kofi Jeremy Amoako was handed his Bundesliga debut in Darmstadt. Aged 18 years and 224 days, the Germany youth international is the eighth youngest player to appear in a Bundesliga game for the Wolves. Captain and record appearance holder Maximilian Arnold remains the youngest, having made his top-flight bow aged 17 years and 183 days on 26 November 2011.
